Introducing...

Lumikki, a Woman Minstrel

Her mother, as her father tells it, was a beauty of the far north. Alas, the lady perished soon after naming her daughter, leaving her simple Breeland father to rear up the girl. And grow she did, indeed; to delight in seed and mead, sedge and morning, swallows and melodies. But when the Blackwolds' threat grew, her father sent her to his brother's family in Bree, hoping she'd be safe there, have a chance at better suitors, better life than at home.

Her scholarly uncle taught her to read and write a little, scoffing at her love of lutes and lyres, guiding her towards suitable gentlemen, tasks of greater import.
All would have been well if dreams of strange lights in the sky and icy winds in her hair hadn't began to lure Lumikki towards the North... And then, early one morn, she slipped away, leaving nothing but a short letter to her foster family.

Fine music performed in fitting finery is her greates joy; when needs must, though, she'd rather not soil her velvets and laces.

Note: Her name, save for being appropriate for someone of Lossoth-heritage (Lumi-väki, as they call themselves), is also the Finnish name for Snow-white. Lumikki is the character with whom I bemoaned the lack of lipstick in Middle-Earth; even though her hair is as black as ebony, and skin as white as one can get it, her lips are barely even pink, much less close to bloodred, as they should. This graphic fail is attempted to be fixed with her clothing, crimson being her most used colour.
